I am so thrilled to report that our book is due out September 30th and is now available via pre-order!
I wrote this book with my colleague Dr. Beth Creager Berger and we’ve been writing for around 5 years, and dreaming and talking about this project for even longer. We’re incredibly thrilled that it’s finally coming out and can’t wait to see it in the hands of as many parents as possible.
Beth and I wrote this book because we wanted to address ALL the moods and emotional changes people can experience when becoming parents. Many books do a wonderful job of addressing “postpartum depression” but many of folks really struggle with anxiety, overwhelm, irritability, and more, and wanted to help all parents learn how to acknowledge and manage the emotional changes that come with the pregnancy and postpartum process.
While we address all the Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), we also help readers learn how to address some of the lesser-addressed issues of new parenthood, such as sleep disruption, the difficult impact on relationships, and how hard self-care is to manage as a new parent. There are chapters devoted to partners’ mental wellbeing, future pregnancies, and the impact of having a baby in the NICU or with a medical issue on one’s own mental health. We also explore culture and identity, the disproportionate impact of PMADs on parents of color and the LGBTQ+ community.
Our book is chock full of empirically validated research, skills, and rich with information and parent examples. We aid readers in doing small, tangible exercises after learning bits of information broken down in digestible chunks geared toward sleep deprived concentration spans. I’m incredibly proud of how readable and inclusive our book is, and thankful for all of our readers who gave us such great input and feedback. It’s truly been a community labor of love and I can’t wait until it’s out!
You’re able to pre-order your copy today for yourself or a loved one, and I’m eager to hear what you think!
